Successful Partnership: Gatewen Village, Wrexham

22nd November 2011

Since its official opening in February 2011, the ‘Gatewen Village’ residential development in Wrexham has proved popular with buyers.

Morston Assets teamed up with Bloor Homes to regenerate the former Gatewen colliery by carrying out extensive demolition, road building, infrastructure and environmental improvement works.  Together they have transformed the site into an impressive development of three, four and five bedroom homes set within a rural landscaped setting.  The works to the 34.65 acre site include off-site highway upgrades, construction of footpath and cycleway links, the creation of a habitat corridor, introduction of a pond and village green at the entrance to the development and the introduction of an innovative sustainable urban drainage system confirmed by Welsh Water as an exemplar of sustainable development.

Despite tough economic times, the properties have seen a great deal of interest with 19 families already moved in and a further 14 properties reserved.

The development has also impressed the property industry, allowing the Derbyshire-based house builders the scoop the ‘Developer of the Year for 51+ units’ award at the recent LABC Warranty Awards for Excellence in London.

Building upon the success of the first phase, which will eventually feature 76 family homes constructed by Bloor, Morston have begun the process of releasing Phase 2 of the development, another 9.6 acres of land surrounded by mature trees and backing onto the lakeside setting of Moss Valley Park, which is scheduled to commence in Summer 2012.
