YOURS South Lynn's community car is proving a big hit with residents since being donated by property developers Morston Assets at the start of the year.
So much so, that one family at the 109-home development off Saddlebow Road has decided to hold off on buying a new car since its old one spluttered to an early grave last month.
Residents pay 30p for each mile they use the 2008 Volkswagen Polo Blue Motion, and without the added expense of tax, insurance and MOT it's no surprise that it has become such a popular community asset.
Yours South Lynn resident Emma Kandjou said: "Our car went wrong earlier this year and we would have had to spend a fortune getting it fixed.
"If it wasn't for the community car, we would have had to find the money to buy another car to keep us going.
"We can use the Yours South Lynn car as and when we need to, saving us around £100 each month."
Emma and her family are not the only residents taking advantage of the economical and greener vehicle. She said: "There have been times when I have gone to book the car and someone already has it, but we're all fairly flexible as a community and if it is a real emergency we work out ways to accommodate those that need it as a priority.
"It has been a big help to one resident whose car was in the garage for a lot longer than anticipated - without the community car she would have struggled to get to work each day."
Morston's commitment to reducing the need for regular car travel within the community has been part of the 'Yours' fabric since it became involved in plans to provide a total of 900 new homes at South Lynn.
Now, with the community car proving such a success in such a short space of time, the property developer is looking to get another car for Yours South Lynn and its residents.
