Former Gatewen Colliery Redevelopment gets Green Light

COMPLETION OF LEGAL AGREEMENTS HERALDS COMMENCEMENT OF REDEVELOPMENT OF FORMER COLLIERY SITE

Morston Assets and National House Builder, Bloor Homes, have completed legal agreements with Wrexham County Borough Council allowing the first phase of development to commence at the site of the former Gatewen Colliery, Wrexham.

Earlier this year Morston and Bloor Homes North West were granted planning consent for 236 new homes on the site of the former colliery. Legal agreements completed on Friday July 9th approved Bloor’s initial development proposal of 81 homes with initial works beginning imminently. The approval also includes the creation of a new £2.5million roundabout junction into the 35 acre site as well as new traffic calming measures onto the Gatewen Road.

Commenting, Morston Chief Executive David Dodge stated: “We are extremely pleased to conclude negotiations with both Wrexham Council and Bloor Homes who both have worked extremely hard to deliver this project in the current economic climate.” He continues, “I believe that this is another great example of where Morston’s skills and experience, combined with those of the local authority and a quality house builder, can be seen to deliver high quality, sustainable development on defunct, brownfield land.”
